With the holiday season near, doors will constantly be swung open for delivered packages and guests. Positioning Animals Worldwide (PAW) and the American Kennel Club (AKC) understand how quickly a pet can be lost, so they have partnered up to create a system that effectively recovers lost pets.

The device is called the Spotlight GPS Pet Locator and has been named one of the “13 Eye-popping Pet Projects” for 2009 by Fast Company.

The Spotlight GPS Pet Locator is simply, a GPS for pets. As a consumer, you have the ability to create your pet’s “SafeSpot” or boundaries on the Spotlight website. So, if your pet decides to wander out of his “SafeSpot,” the Spotlight GPS pet locator will accurately pinpoint your dog’s current location by using Google Maps. Then, the system will send you a text message and an e-mail alert.

The AKC Companion Animal Recovery team is readily available 24 hours, 7 days a week and Positioning Animals Worldwide pride themselves as being the only company partnered with the AKC Recovery team.

The Spotlight GPS costs $249.99 and has a water-resistant collar. It also has a LED light so pet owners can locate their pets at night. It can be activated by sending a text message to Spotlight.

If your dog is stolen, and is traveling in a car driving over 30 mph, you will be contacted and can then call the police.

The Spotlight GPS Pet Locator may be a bit expensive, but you’re paying for quality. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Great idea but these collars have been around for awhile with the tracking and field dogs. Great for if your dog wonders off the property but for anyone stealing the dog or wanting to keep your canine…the collar can be stripped. Be nice if some how they come up with a GPS w/in a micro chip that can be implanted beneath the skin and be able to a fee through your local cell phone carrier for monitoring purposes like they offer on family locators and such.
