Puppies are adorable, but before you make a hasty decision, remember that puppies grow and it can get pretty expensive and time consuming. Sadly, there are over 6.5 million homeless pets in United States shelters and 3-4 million pets are euthanized each year, according to the Humane Society of the United States. As a dog lover and blogger, it breaks my heart when I read a story about a dog that is found in the street and/or abused. So please, before you get a dog, think about the real reason you want a dog and whether you can ultimately care for the dog for the rest of its life.
According to statistics gathered by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, the number one reason dogs are placed in shelters is: Moving.
Followed by,
-Landlord issues
-Cost of pet maintenance
-No time for pet
-Inadequate facilities
-Too many pets in home
-Pet illness (es)
-Personal problems
-Biting
-No homes for littermates
And remember, if you’re ready for a dog, adopt one.
