Since Beneful’s Wag World launch earlier this week, Beneful also took a national poll of how many dog owners said they couldn’t live without their dog on a daily basis. Though dog lovers could say it’s pretty obvious how we feel about our pets, the poll may shock the minority.

Based on the national survey, 95 percent of 797 dog owners who were 25 years of age and older, said their dog lifted up their spirits and 92 percent said their dogs helped them enjoy life itself. Two-thirds of those who participated in the survey said they would rather travel with their dogs than their friends and family.

The survey also showed that 59 percent enjoyed walking and running with their dogs, 44 percent said they liked driving with their dogs, 27 percent enjoyed running errands with their dogs and 22 percent enjoyed taking their dog on vacation with them.

Women were noted to spend the majority of their day with the dog- that was more than twice the amount men spent with dogs.

Nine in 10 dog owners said they take comfort in coming home to their dog during these uncertain times.

Nearly 91 percent of those polled said their dog makes their life more fulfilling.

When asked what it is about their dog that makes life better, 80 percent of the dog owners polled said it is that their dog is always happy to see them; 75 percent said it is the unconditional love; and 63 percent said it is their dog’s reliability.

Beneful(R) dog food has launched WagWorld for dog lovers who love traveling with their pets. The site allows dog owners to post local dog parks and destinations that are dog-friendly. Beneful is also searching for the “Top 10 Togetherful Cities in America.”

The contest is for 10 cities that have the most usage on the website- that means posting dog-friendly locations, uploading images of you and your dog, and write reviews.

The contest runs until September 27th and the winner will be announced in October 2009.
